Maiden Shanghai is the Chinese restaurant within the FIVE Zurich hotel. A ceiling feature needed to be created inline with the new interior, bringing interest to the previous low and plain ceiling. We wanted to create the illusion that the ceiling had a sky light and worked with a Lighting Designer to integrate LED sheets behind acrylic. Red fabric ribbons brought softness, with ribbed glass down stands to add sparkle. In order to keep the feature light in weight, the structure was made with gold sprayed timber instead of metal.
